It’s a hybrid heating and cooling system that pairs an electric heat pump with a natural gas furnace. The heat pump works to heat and cool your home efficiently until the outside temperature drops significantly and the system proactively switches to your furnace.
Gas furnaces use natural gas to generate heat, while electric furnaces use electricity. Gas furnaces are typically more cost-effective in areas with lower natural gas prices, while electric furnaces are easier to install and maintain.
With proper maintenance, a furnace can last between 15 to 20 years. However, this can vary based on usage, maintenance, and the quality of the unit.
There isn’t one number for everyone. The amount you’ll save depends on a range of factors, including the efficiency of the heat pump, the age and efficiency of your furnace, outdoor temperatures and the set point where the system switches. Depending on local weather, you could heat your home exclusively with electricity using the heat pump, while during more frigid conditions you might only use your gas furnace.
